Service Conditions

  • Working pressure: 16 bar at ambient
  • Burst pressure: > 100 bar
  • Test pressure: 1.5× working
  • Temperature range: –196°C to +400°C
  • Steam SIP: +135°C compatible
  • Cryogenic service: –196°C minimum

Actual ratings depend on size, material and operating conditions. Confirm via RFQ for project-specific requirements.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions about sanitary tubes.

Engineering and procurement questions we hear most often. For project-specific guidance, send your application details via RFQ.

What is the difference between ASTM A270 and ASME BPE tubing?

A270 is the general sanitary tubing standard for food/dairy. ASME BPE is the bioprocessing-specific standard with tighter tolerances, controlled ferrite content, and EP surface finish.

A270 with optional S2 (Supplementary requirement 2) approaches BPE quality. For pharma/biotech, specify ASME BPE; for food/dairy, A270 is standard.

Should I use welded or seamless tubing?

Welded tubing (A270) is the standard for sanitary service — economically priced, consistent quality, and adequate for typical pressures. Seamless is more expensive.

For ultra-high purity or extreme pressure, seamless may be specified. For 99% of sanitary applications, A270 welded with proper documentation is appropriate.

What surface finish should I specify?

Mill polish (Ra ≤ 0.8 μm) is standard for general sanitary service. For pharmaceutical applications, electropolished (EP) interior with Ra ≤ 0.38 μm (SF4) is required.

For WFI and ultra-high purity, specify SF5 (Ra ≤ 0.25 μm). Surface roughness reports with profilometer measurements available.

What lengths are available?

Standard length is 6 meters (20 ft) which is the typical orbital welding rotor capacity. 3 meter (10 ft) lengths and custom cuts available.

For long pipe runs, longer custom lengths reduce weld count and installation time. Maximum practical length depends on shipping and handling — provide site constraints.

Is tubing supplied with bevel ends?

Yes — sanitary tubing ships with bevel ends prepared for orbital welding. Bevel angle: 37.5° per AWS D18.1 standard.

For installations using sleeve couplings or tri-clamp fittings, square-cut ends can be specified. Standard is bevel-prepared.

Can tubing be supplied with weld preparation per orbital welding spec?

Yes — specify orbital welding preparation in RFQ for tightest tolerance and roundness. Includes end-squareness inspection.

For automatic orbital welding (BPE applications), provide weld head specification for proper end preparation. ASME BPE MT-9 inspection available.

What documentation is provided?

Standard: EN 10204 3.1 MTR with heat number traceability. Optional: surface roughness report (Ra), passivation certificate, dimensional inspection, full BPE package.

For pharmaceutical applications, specify ASME BPE compliance package with ferrite content (DL designation), surface finish report, and hydrotest certificate.
